August Theme: πŸ‘ Slow Living, Southern Belle Edition

Happy, August, Sweet Friends!

The first week of August always feels funny to me.

Summer isn't over, but you can almost feel everyone rushing toward fall. Pumpkin recipes start showing up, school supplies appear overnight, and suddenly we're all expected to pretend it isn't still ninety degrees outside.

I'm not ready.

I want one more month of iced tea in the afternoon, tomatoes that actually taste like tomatoes, and dinners that don't require turning the oven on.

This week's recipe ideas are all about exactly that.

Simple meals.
Plenty of protein.
Fresh ingredients.
And enough margin left in your evening to actually enjoy it.

After all, the whole point of dinner isn't just feeding ourselves.

It's creating a life we actually want to come home to.

Dip of the Week: Easy 3-Layer Chive & Onion Dip

Y'all, this layered dip is so so easy, and exactly what you want for this last month of summer. A simple blend of chive and onion cream cheese and sour cream (I like to use my Sweetpea Ranch on the bottom of this dip, but you can follow the recipe, or sub in the ranch!), a layer of salsa, and it's all topped with shredded cheese. My favorite way to eat this is on Pork Rinds, especially the pork rinds from my friends down in Georgia!

For protein-packed main dish ideas, my go-to is my Chicken Cutlets, Air Fryer Chicken Snack Wraps, and Shrimp Louie Salad.

And, these side dishes, I can't stop making! Toni's Notecard Coleslaw, Sunshine Squash Casserole, and Air Fryer Potatoes and Onions.

Host Yourself First

Five Minutes That Changes Dinner

Before you start dinner tonight:

✨ Light a candle.
✨ Fill a glass with ice water (or iced tea).
✨ Put on one favorite song.
✨ Wipe the counters.
✨ Cook from a peaceful kitchen.

Dinner somehow tastes better when your environment slows you down first.

A Little Housekeeping Update:

You might have noticed I'm sending this email on a Monday evening! I'm switching it up, y'all! Monday evenings, you can now look for an email from me with some recipes for the week. Thursday mornings, you'll get another email from me with more hosting/lifestyle content in it. My hope is that these emails will help you add margin to your life, make answering the "what are we having for dinner" question easier, and share more ways I am thankful to wake up tomorrow.

Cheers to you, Sweet Friend!

May your kitchen stay cool.

May your meals be simple.

May your tea stay cold.

May your evenings stretch just a little longer than you expected.

And may you remember that a beautiful life is rarely built all at onceβ€”it grows one peaceful dinner at a time.

With love,

Ashley

Hi, Sweet Friend! At the beginning of this month, I told you I wanted us to create more margin. Not more hustle. Not more pressure. More breathing room. As I've been writing these Wednesday notes, I've realized something. We're not just talking about recipes. Or organizing. Or dinner parties. We're talking about building a life that's easier to say "yes" to. Yes to inviting the neighbors over. Yes to a cup of tea on the porch. Yes to using the good dishes on a Tuesday. Yes to slowing down...

Hi, Sweet Friend! As July begins to wind down, I hope you've noticed something. Not a perfectly organized pantry. Not a spotless kitchen. Not a home that suddenly looks like it belongs in a magazine. Something much quieter than that. I hope you've noticed that your life feels just a little easier. Maybe you've reached for a jar of homemade ranch instead of ordering takeout. Maybe you've invited someone over because the tablecloth was already washed. Maybe you've peeled a handful of sticky...

Hi, friend! A funny thing has been happening around here lately. I've stopped thinking of my home as one giant project. Instead, I've started thinking of it as a quiet teammate. Every time I put something away instead of setting it down... Every time I refill the olive oil before it's empty... Every time I wash the tablecloth after dinner instead of "later"... Every time I peel another sticky note off my garden door... My home gets a little easier to live in. Those tiny rituals don't just...
