Your home needs a little autumn rhythm. 🍂

Hey, Sweet Friend!

I have a theory.

A cozy home isn't necessarily one that's decorated beautifully, perfectly organized, or even particularly clean.

It's one that feels GOOD to come home to.

👉 The kitchen is ready for you to make dinner.
👉 There's a place to sit down and enjoy it.
👉 You know what's in your refrigerator.
👉 And when someone texts to ask if they can stop by, you don't immediately start calculating where you're going to toss all your clutter by the time they ring the doorbell...

THAT is the kind of home I want us to create this October.

And it doesn't happen because we spend our entire weekends scrubbing baseboards and organizing closets.

It happens because we have a few little rhythms that make everyday life easier.

I call this part of my Holistic Hosting System. The idea is simple: when we take care of our homes in small, intentional ways, we make more room for the things we actually want to do in them.

Here are five of my favorite fall nesting rituals.

🏡 1. Give yourself some Monday Margins.

I like to set aside a couple of hours at the beginning of the week to tend to my home. (Choose whatever day works best for you, friend!)

Not deep-clean-the-entire-house kind of tending. Just the things that make the biggest difference in how my week feels.

✅ Picking things up and putting them where they belong.
✅ Giving the bathroom a good cleaning.
✅ Getting a load of laundry going.
✅ Looking ahead at what I'm cooking this week.

It's not glamorous, but goodness gracious, does it make a difference.

And here's the important part: you don't have to do everything.

Choose the tasks that will make the rest of your week feel easier. Give yourself a reasonable amount of time, put on some music, and get to it.

Future You will be DELIGHTED.

🍲 2. Keep a little homemade convenience in your freezer.

One of the greatest gifts you can give yourself is having something delicious ready to go when you don't feel like cooking.

I'm a big believer in homemade convenience.

A container of soup. A batch of taco meat. Some homemade chicken stock. A few portions of Bolognese sauce.

You don't need to spend an entire Sunday preparing 27 identical meals in plastic containers.

Just make a little extra of something you're already cooking and tuck it away for another day.

Imagine coming home on a chilly Thursday evening, knowing there's homemade soup in your freezer and all you have to do is warm it up.

THAT is luxury, my friend.

These Crispy Cornflake Chicken Tenders are quickly being made over and over to keep my freezer stocked!

🕯️ 3. Create an evening closing ritual.

I love waking up to a kitchen that's ready for me.

Not necessarily spotless, but ready.

The dishes are put away. The counters are reasonably clear. The dining table isn't covered with the miscellaneous belongings of everyone who lives in the house.

Before you settle in for the evening, spend 10 or 15 minutes putting things back where they belong.

Then turn off those overhead lights, switch on your lamps, make yourself a cup of tea, and enjoy the home you've been tending.

We're not cleaning for cleaning's sake.

We're creating an environment that helps us rest. (I don't know about you, but if I go to bed with dishes in my sink, that's all I think about!)

🍎 4. Keep your kitchen ready for the season.

One of my favorite things about autumn is how naturally it lends itself to comfort cooking.

A pot of chili. Something delicious roasting in the oven. A casserole bubbling away while you set the table.

But those cozy dinners become a whole lot less appealing when you have to make a special trip to the grocery store for every single ingredient.

Take a few minutes each week to check your pantry, refrigerator, and freezer.

What do you already have?
What needs to be used?
What could you make with very little effort?

Maybe you keep a few potatoes on hand for easy baked potato dinners. Maybe there's always a can of tomatoes and some pasta in the pantry.

You don't need a kitchen stocked like a grocery store.

You just need a kitchen that works for YOU.

🍽️ 5. Give your dining table a weekly reset.

You knew I wasn't going to let you get through this email without talking about your dining table!

Once a week, clear it off completely.

Wipe it down.
Put your favorite tablecloth or placemats on it.
Add a little centerpiece if you like.

It might be a candle, a bowl of apples, or some greenery clipped from the yard.

Nothing complicated.

I think of my dining table as my favorite reset button.

When it's ready, I'm much more inclined to sit down for a proper meal, invite someone over, or spend a little time enjoying my own company.

And that's really what all of these little rituals are about.

We're making room for the life we want to live.

I don't want you spending October trying to create a picture-perfect autumn home.

I want you making soup. Inviting friends over. Lighting candles on random Wednesday evenings. Enjoying your morning tea without staring at a mountain of chores.

And I want you to have the time and energy to actually enjoy those things.

So here's your little assignment for the weekend:

Choose ONE nesting ritual to introduce into your weekly routine.

Just one!

Try it for a couple of weeks and see how it changes the way you feel about your home.

Remember, Friend, the goal isn't to create more work for yourself.

It's to create more room for living.

Love,
Ashley
