🍎 Welcome to the Fall Semester at Chez Sweetpea

I'm declaring it: The fall semester at Chez Sweetpea is officially in session. 🍎

There will be no exams.

Attendance is extremely flexible.

Snacks are encouraged.

And the syllabus mostly consists of making our homes feel good, feeding ourselves well, and creating enough margin that we're not losing our ever-loving minds by the time the holidays arrive.

Seems reasonable, yes?

All this back-to-school energy has me craving rhythm again. I also start feeling this way when you can tell the seasons are changing soon!

I know so many of you are getting kids back to school right now, adjusting schedules, packing lunches, figuring out practices and carpools and homework and all the things.

And even though my own life doesn't revolve around a school calendar, I swear I can feel that collective shift.

Summer looseness starts giving way to a little more structure.

And every year it makes me think: Maybe I need a fresh routine, too.

Not because everything needs optimizing.

Because a few good rhythms give us more room to actually enjoy our lives.

✨ Sweetpea's Little Luxury

This week's Little Luxury is incredibly simple:

Reset something before you need it.

πŸ«– Refill the tea.

πŸ›οΈ Wash the sheets.

🍽️ Clear the dining table.

πŸ’ Restock the things you use every morning.

πŸ§– Put a fresh towel in the bathroom.

πŸ₯¦ Prep something delicious for tomorrow's lunch.

None of these things are glamorous.

But there is something incredibly luxurious about moving through your home and discovering that Past You already took care of it.

That is the kind of luxury I'm interested in these days.

πŸ›’ Future Me Approves

While everyone else is buying school supplies, I fully support buying yourself a few "new semester" supplies of your own.

A fresh notebook.

Good pens.

New Post-Its.

A pretty basket for the thing that's always floating around your house.

Fresh kitchen towels.

A new candle for September.

Or absolutely nothing at allβ€”just reorganize what you already own and pretend it's brand new.

We're very resourceful students here at Chez Sweetpea.

The question isn't: "What can I buy to become more organized?"

It's: What little change would make the routine I already have easier?

That's usually where the good stuff is hiding.

🍽️ Weekend at Chez Sweetpea

This weekend, I'm thinking about that funny little space between summer and fall.

I'm not ready to rush summer out the door.

But I am ready for the rhythms of fall.

I'm ready for Sunday Roast dinners.

I'm ready for dinners that linger a little longer.

I'm ready to start thinking about the meals I'll want in the freezer when the days get busier.

I'm ready for the house to feel tucked-in again.

So this weekend, I'm giving Chez Sweetpea a tiny seasonal reset.

Nothing dramatic.

A cleared table.

A tidied kitchen.

A look through the freezer.

A little meal planning.

Maybe something delicious bubbling away somewhere.

And then?

I'm sitting down and enjoying my own home.

Because that's the whole point of all these systems and routines anyway.

We're not creating routines so we can get more done.

We're creating them so there's more room for living.

🀍 Your Weekend Assignment

Give yourself 30 minutes this weekend for a little "Back-to-School-But-For-Me" reset.

βœ… Put on some music.

βœ… Make a glass of iced tea.

βœ… Pick one little corner of your life that needs tending.

Then stop when the timer goes off.

You do not need to organize your entire existence before September 1st.

We're simply making things a little nicer for the person who has to wake up and live here tomorrow.

And I happen to think she's worth taking care of.

From my table to yours,

There is something about back-to-school season that makes me want to buy a fresh notebook and completely reorganize my life. (Heck! I bought a whole new planner system that I've started to *think* about using!) And I don't even have children going back to school. πŸ˜‚ But every year, when I see the school supplies lining the aisles and hear my friends talking about first days, new teachers, lunchboxes, and earlier bedtimes, I get the itch to refresh my own routines. Not reinvent my entire life....

I have a tiny challenge for you this weekend: Make it feel like something. Not an event. Not a dinner party requiring three grocery stores, seventeen serving platters, and a nervous breakdown. Just... something. A little marker between the workweek and the weekend that says: Oh! We're enjoying our life now. ✨ Sweetpea's Little Luxury Before the weekend arrives, pull out one of the good things. The cocktail napkins you've been saving. The little appetizer plates. The wine glasses you think are...

Happy Monday, Y'all! A version of you is coming home later this week, and she'll be so grateful for whatever you do for her today. And frankly? I think we should make her life easier. 🌿 Host Yourself First This week, I want you to think about Future You. Not six-months-from-now Future You. I mean Thursday-at-5:47-PM Future You, hungry, tired, and staring into the refrigerator, hoping dinner magically appears. What can you do today that makes her evening easier? It doesn’t have to be a giant...
