I have a question for you this Monday: What can you do today that Thursday You will be ridiculously grateful for? Not December You. Not someday-when-you-finally-get-your-life-together You. Thursday You. She's close enough that we actually know what she might need. Maybe she'll be tired. Maybe the week will have gone sideways. Maybe she'll open the refrigerator at 5:30 PM and desperately hope someone in there has a plan. And this is where one of my favorite parts of my Holistic Hosting System comes in: Future Me Approves. It's the idea that a tiny bit of thoughtfulness now can feel like an absolute luxury later. And Monday is my favorite day to practice it. 🌿 Host Yourself FirstBefore we start doing things for Future Us, though, let's check in with Present Us. What do you need this week? Not what you should accomplish. Not what your house needs. Not what does everyone else need from you. What would make you feel cared for? Maybe you need an evening with absolutely nothing on the calendar. Maybe you need something nourishing in the refrigerator. (I've been keeping Broccoli Salad in my fridge! Why is this a holiday/cookout thing?? I'm making it an every day thing, y'all!) Maybe you need clean sheets. Maybe you need to eat dinner somewhere other than standing at the kitchen counter. Maybe you need to text a friend: "Come over Thursday. I'll make something easy." Hosting yourself first doesn't always look luxurious. Sometimes it looks like making sure there's actually food in the house. And that counts. 🍽️ This Week at the TableSeptember dinners have entered my favorite category: Cozy Food when it's not actually cozy outside yet. 😂 I want the feeling of fall dinner without eating a steaming bowl of beef stew while the air conditioner is still running. So this week, think about meals that bridge the seasons. A big salad with something warm and crispy on top. This BBQ Chicken Chopped Salad is the perfect bridge! Hot Honey Ranch Chicken Thighs with roasted vegetables. A pot of Chili on a slightly cooler evening. Chicken cutlets with something fresh and crunchy alongside. I love, love, LOVE keeping a container of these in my freezer and pulling one out when I need it! A snacky Dippy Dinner assembled from whatever you've got. And here's my favorite trick: Make the useful part twice. Grilling chicken? Grill extra. Making taco meat? Double it. Heck! Triple it, and freeze portions for the week of Thanksgiving. Mixing dressing? Make the whole jar. Baking chicken cutlets? Future You would probably enjoy finding a few in the freezer. You don't need an elaborate meal-prep system. You just need to occasionally make Tuesday's effort do Thursday's work. 🏡 Your Monday MarginGive yourself a little margin today. Set a timer for 20 minutes and ask: What is making my house harder to live in right now? Not uglier. Not less Pinterest-worthy. Harder. Is the kitchen counter covered? Is there nowhere to put the mail? Are you digging through a laundry basket every morning? Is the freezer so packed you have no idea what's actually in there? Is your dining table currently serving as International Headquarters for Random Stuff? Pick one. Twenty minutes. We're not deep cleaning the house. We're removing one tiny piece of friction. Because here's something I've learned: A home that supports you is much easier to share with other people. That's Holistic Hosting. The dinner party doesn't start when someone rings the doorbell. It starts in all these tiny rhythms we're building long before the invitation ever goes out. 🍎 And Speaking of What's Coming…This month, we're going to keep practicing this. A little preparation. A little gathering. A lot more enjoyment. Because quietly, in the background, we're getting ourselves ready for the busiest hosting season of the year. I'll be sharing much more about Prepsgiving soon—our October mission to get our homes, meals, and hosting lives prepared before the holidays arrive. But we're not there yet. 😮💨 It's September. The apples are coming in. Summer produce is winding down. Game Day food is calling my name. There are dinners to eat and people to invite over. So today, we're only worrying about Thursday You. 🤍 This Week's BlessingMay you find little pockets of ease tucked into your week. May the meal you make today feed you twice. May your home support you instead of constantly asking something from you. May you remember that preparation can be an act of care—not another thing to perfect. And when Thursday You discovers that Monday You already thought of her? I hope she feels incredibly loved. From my table to yours, |

September is here, and I am so ready for her. (But, y'all... this 90˚ weather can leave!) Not in a rush-the-season kind of way. More in a fresh notebook, tidy kitchen, dinner simmering, let's get our rhythms back kind of way. This month at Chez Sweetpea, we're leaning into enjoying our homes, gathering people around the table, getting back into routines that support us, and quietly preparing ourselves for the busier months ahead. Think: 🍎 Apple Country🏡 enjoying home🥘 cozy-but-not-too-cozy...
Tomorrow is September 1st. And I don't know about you, but I am ready. Not ready for pumpkins everywhere. Not ready to put on a sweater when it's still 80 degrees outside. And certainly not ready to skip straight past this beautiful little stretch of late summer. But I am ready for September. There's something about this month that has always felt like a second January to me. Maybe it's all that back-to-school energy we've been talking about. Maybe it's the fresh notebooks. Maybe it's...
I'm declaring it: The fall semester at Chez Sweetpea is officially in session. 🍎 There will be no exams. Attendance is extremely flexible. Snacks are encouraged. And the syllabus mostly consists of making our homes feel good, feeding ourselves well, and creating enough margin that we're not losing our ever-loving minds by the time the holidays arrive. Seems reasonable, yes? All this back-to-school energy has me craving rhythm again. I also start feeling this way when you can tell the seasons...
