I have a question for you: What could you do now that would make November You want to reach back through time and kiss you on the mouth? 😘 I'm serious. Because somewhere around the middle of September, I start noticing something. The calendar isn't exactly busy yet. But I can see it coming. October will arrive. Then somehow we'll blink, and it's November. Then there are approximately seventeen things happening every weekend, someone needs you to bring an appetizer, the grocery store is out of the ONE ingredient you need, and you're standing in the middle of your kitchen thinking: HOW IS THANKSGIVING NEXT WEEK?! And this year? I don't want to do that. I want to enjoy it. Which means I'm starting before I need to. ✨ Sweetpea’s Little LuxuryThis week's Little Luxury is: Margin. Not a new candle. Not a pretty serving dish. Not something we need to order. Just a little breathing room. I've started thinking of margin as one of the greatest luxuries I can give myself. Ten extra minutes before I need to leave. Dinner already handled. A gift purchased before I need it. (And having the items to wrap said gift!) An empty shelf in the freezer. A Saturday without six errands stacked on top of each other. A tablecloth washed and ready before the morning I need to set the table. That feeling of: Oh! That's already done! Luxury. Absolute luxury. And unlike so many other luxuries, this is one we can create for ourselves. 🍎 Around Chez SweetpeaI've been working on something behind the scenes. And the entire idea started with one question: What if we prepared for the holidays early enough that we actually got to enjoy them? Not decorating for Christmas in September. Not skipping over October. And definitely not turning our lives into one enormous holiday-preparation checklist. Quite the opposite. I want to protect the season. I want October to feel like October. I want November to feel like November. I want us to have people over without thinking, I really don't have time for this. I want Thanksgiving week to arrive and realize there are things already tucked into the freezer. I want the house to be ready enough. I want gifts to have somewhere to go. I want weeknight dinners handled when December gets busy. I want us to have enough margin left to actually say: “Come over!” Instead of: “Maybe after the holidays...” So I've been building something for us. And on Monday, I'm finally going to tell you about it. 👀 🛒 Future Me ApprovesUntil then, let's do a little experiment. Sometime today, open your Notes app or grab a piece of paper and write: “Things that make the holidays harder than they need to be:” Then brain dump. Don't organize it. Don't solve anything. Just notice. Maybe your guest room becomes the dumping ground, and then suddenly guests are coming. Maybe you never have room in the freezer when it's time to start cooking. Maybe December weeknight dinners completely fall apart. Maybe you wait until the last minute to buy gifts. Maybe Thanksgiving morning always includes one dish you SWEAR you're never making at the last minute again. Maybe you spend the entire week before company comes cleaning places absolutely nobody is going to look. Write it down. Because those little friction points? That's where we're going to create some margin. 🥂 Your Weekend AssignmentYour assignment this weekend is deliciously small: Do one thing before you need to. That's it. Buy the birthday card before you're on the way to the party. Make a double batch of something and freeze half. Clear one shelf in the linen closet. Order the replacement thing you've been meaning to order. Wash the serving platter that's somehow been sitting in the “I'll deal with that later” pile. Put something on the calendar. Make the reservation. Handle ONE thing that Future You would otherwise have to do later. And when you're finished? Notice how good it feels. Because I think that's the energy I want to carry into the last few months of this year: Not frantic. Not perfectly organized. Not six weeks ahead on absolutely everything. Just… thoughtful. A little more prepared. A little more margin. A little more room for the people and things that actually matter. Future You is going to be very grateful. And on Monday? We're taking this idea somewhere BIG. 👀 From my table to yours, |

I would like to officially declare something: Game Day counts as dinner. There. I said it. You do not need to make a “real meal” after everyone has spent the afternoon standing around the kitchen island eating chicken wings, chips and dip, little sandwiches, and approximately 47 bites of something cheesy. That WAS dinner. 😂 And frankly? Some of my favorite meals look exactly like that. A table full of little things. Everybody reaching for something. Someone standing in the kitchen eating...
I have a September assignment for all of us: Make your house the place to be. Not the fanciest place to be. Not the cleanest. Not the place with the biggest kitchen or the prettiest dining room or the most impressive menu. The place where people walk in and immediately think, Oh, good. I'm here. THAT place. Because I think sometimes we make gathering at home so much bigger than it needs to be. We wait until we have the right table. The right dishes. A free Saturday to clean every baseboard. A...
I have a question for you this Monday: What can you do today that Thursday You will be ridiculously grateful for? Not December You. Not someday-when-you-finally-get-your-life-together You. Thursday You. She's close enough that we actually know what she might need. Maybe she'll be tired. Maybe the week will have gone sideways. Maybe she'll open the refrigerator at 5:30 PM and desperately hope someone in there has a plan. And this is where one of my favorite parts of my Holistic Hosting System...
